If you use your calculator and put in more than 10 nines, it goes to 1 but thats bc you havent increased your body number by the actual places place that it should be bc it should be .999.../1000... Anyway, i understand that there is no closer number to 1 than .999....but, is .333(repeating)/1000 actually 1/3?

Hey, welcome to the forum liza g. First, think of it this way, What is the smallest number? 0.00000000000000001? 0.00000000000000000....1? Well there is no such thing as the smallest number so if we think of it this way, 0.999.... recurring is equal to 1.
