It was not long at all.

Hm, okay. Any new problem?

Re: Markov chains

Yes, I will put a new one.

I throw a die and subtract 1 from the face that comes up. I throw the die multiple times and sum the values. What is the probability of my sum reaching exactly 10, 11, 12, 13, 14? After reaching a requested sum, the sum will reset to 0.

You will not have long to wait. Check post #103 and watch out, I am much smarter about this one. ( I know the answer ).

Re: Markov chains

Just to clear it up, you want to reach 10 the first time, then reach 11 the second time, and so on?

No, once you reach any of those numbers you reset to 0.

Need a break, see you in a bit.

Re: Markov chains

Yes, I know that, but do you need to reach any of them just once or do you need to get to each one?

That I can not answer. But just think of what happens when you get to 9 for instance.

Why can you not answer it? I'm asking what the question wants.

Re: Markov chains

I need to know if it is enough to reach just one of them before finishing or do you need to get each one separately in multiple goes?

Re: Markov chains

Well, it already does probabilities, but it is incorrect. It counts thing like 5,5,0.

Re: Markov chains

It was supposed to just calculate the 10 probability.

Either way, I think I have a recurrence.
