Re: help me please and fast

Btw, what do you mean by "and got nothing"? Absolutely nothing, zilch, no error message (or such)?

My M is M9 Home Edition, v9.0.1.0, running on W8.1 (64-bit).

Hi;

Nothing at all, no error message. I am running 10.0 on Linux Mint.

Re: help me please and fast

When running the program (via Shift+Enter), the notebook's title bar displays "Running...Untitled-1 *" until completion after about 11 seconds. That display is then replaced with "Untitled-1 *" and the output prints in the usual spot below the program.

What does yours do?

Re: help me please and fast

This SE thread may shed some 'light' on the problem:

Are there tools for getting Mathematica 9 Notebooks working in Mathematica 10?

Re: help me please and fast

Hi Bobby,

What about doing a bit of debugging, say, by 'commenting out' sections of code with (*...*) to see if you can determine what will and what won't output?

eg, I got M to output just the contents of ss. Then I did the same for solutions1, and then for solutions2.

Hi;

So far there is nothing in ss, solutions1 or solutions2.

Re: help me please and fast

Hi Bobby,

I installed M's 10.0.2.0 trial version, and the code runs fine:

3C8gF4T.png

So that probably eliminates the question of M's version compatibility here.

That your OS is different from mine couldn't have anything to do with this, could it?

Does rasher's original code still run ok for you?

Re: help me please and fast

That does not work either. This is just on my new machine, the code runs on my old machines.

Re: help me please and fast

Hmmm...that is very perplexing!

My machine also is new, with the latest Windows OS (W8.1), bought last month.

Have you noticed any problems/differences with other M code too, compared to how they used to run on your old machines? And non-M programs...do they all run fine?

What is your answer to my Q in post #78?

Btw, re post #80, I realised later that no 'commenting out' is needed: the same can be achieved more easily with semi-colon removal.

Does the code prior to its first calculations (ie, prior to the 'solutions1 =' line) respond? eg, will it print the contents of 'conditions'...and of earlier variables?

Re: help me please and fast

Mine finishes immediately, this suggests an error somewhere in the code. Perhaps the copy process is not working but when I run rasher's code that I already have in a notebook it also does not run.

Everything else seems fine with M.

Re: help me please and fast

If there is a coding error, it has snuck through under the M radar as it isn't being reported. But the code runs in all computer and M varieties I tried it in.

Perhaps the copy process is not working

When I pasted your copied code from post #74 into my M it worked.

...but when I run rasher's code that I already have in a notebook it also does not run.

The code, and rasher's original, ran with M9 on my old computer (now dead) and now runs with M9 on my new computer. Both computers are desktops, and the M10 trial version is in my laptop, running W8.1.

Yes, something is rotten in Denmark.

Now I am trying to get Wolfram to give me a link to 10.02 but something is going wrong, I keep getting the link but it will not download.

Yes, something is rotten in Denmark.

I thought you might be onto something there, because the little people like rotten eggs...but they're not from Denmark!

Re: help me please and fast

Hi Bobby,

Any success yet?

I wonder if any Mathematica owners who are reading our posts here could run the code in post #68 and let us know how they went and what M version and OS they used.

I am afraid I have had no luck yet. I am thinking about posting it over at MSE.

Have you installed 10.0.2.0 yet? And if so, did it not work on that?

Re: help me please and fast

I don't understand why you need one. There was no real problem with me downloading the M10 trial version...it just took longer for the download to start than I thought it should.

I entered my site login details (the ones from my M9) and the link was given straight away, but then came the wait. I gave up and tried the link again, but this time I was more patient and waited a bit more. Soon the download began, and an hour or so later it was done.

Got anyone you know who you could contact to run the code?

Re: help me please and fast

I have finally got a working link and I am downloading 10.02. Could be a bug in M that they fixed. I have 2 other machines and a Windows 8.1 partition on this one to test it.

You've got some good testing options there! I hope you'll get to the bottom of it. Best of luck!
