Re: Hard/longwinded Probability question

Did you get the right answer?

In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them.
If it ain't broke, fix it until it is.
Always satisfy the Prime Directive of getting the right answer above all else.

Re: Hard/longwinded Probability question

I do not know what to do next

Re: Hard/longwinded Probability question

The simulation will only give me real number approximations.

Whenever you have a big problem break it into a smaller problem that has the same character.

Re: Hard/longwinded Probability question

I still do not know how to deal with the problem

Re: Hard/longwinded Probability question

Can you deal with the smaller question of exactly 2 out of 4 shots?

Re: Hard/longwinded Probability question

I think I can handle 4 but not 5

Re: Hard/longwinded Probability question

Hi;

What did you get for 4? Then rationalize the answer. Then do 3 out of 6 and rationalize. Then 4 out of 8... You will see the obvious pattern. You can now make an ansatz. Of course this is not a proof, but an EM answer is much better than no answer especially in the real world.

Now if you are still motivated to see a proof go here:

To do big, you have to think small.
