Difference Quotient of f

Find the difference quotient of f; that is, find

[f(x + h) - f(x)]/x, where h cannot be 0. Be sure to simplify.

f(x) = -3x + 1

This is my set up:

[-3(x + h) + 1 - (-3x +1)]/h

f(x) = [-3(x + h) + 1 - (-3x +1)]/h

Numerator

-3x -3h + 1 + 3x - 1 = -3h

We now have:

f(x) = -3h/h

f(x) = -3

Yes, it can be simplified.

Note: If I plan to stay here, I gotta find out how to upload pictures. All this typing on my cell phone is driving me crazy.

-3 is correct.

Some have managed to get images here using a phone but it's not easy and others have failed.

When I joined, the old server allowed small image uploads*, but MIF had to switch to a new server with new rules and this image facility was one casualty. As much as possible I use a laptop and I have an Imgur account. It still takes a while but it works.

Yes but I don't want to get involved with Imgur. Laptop? Computer? I have no money to buy these things. I live the CHECK TO CHECK lifestyle, Bob. NYC is crazy expensive.
