Three More Even, Odd or Neither Functions
Determine if each function is even, odd, or neither.
1. f(x) = cuberoot{2x^2 + 1}
f(-x) = cuberoot{2(-x)^2 + 1}
f(-x) = cuberoot{2x^2 + 1}
I say even.
2. h(x) = x/(x^2 - 1)
h(-x) = -x/((-x)^2 - 1)
h(-x) = -x/(x^2 - 1)
I say odd.
3. F(x) = 2x/|x|
F(-x) = 2(-x)/|-x|
F(-x) = -2x/x
F(-x) = -2
Neither even or odd.

1 and 2 are correct.
Think again about 3. If x is positive 2x/|x| = 2x/x = 2 If x is negative 2x/|x| = 2x/-x = -2

Definition:
A function is "odd" when:
−f(x) = f(−x) for all x
In this question f(x) = 2 f(-x) = -2 = -f(x) This is an odd function.
