solve

A rectangular floor 18 feet by 10 feet is to be completely covered with carpeting that costs x dollars per square yard. in terms of x, how many dollars will the carpeting cost? (1 yard=3 feet)
(A) 20x
(B) 28x
(C) 60x
(D) 180x
(E) 540x

It's simple enough to work out the area of the floor. It's just 18*10 = 180 square feet.
You're given that 3 feet is 1 yard, but when working with areas you need to square that conversion. So, 1² square yards = 3² square feet.

Therefore, 180 square feet is the same as 180/9 = 20 square yards and so the answer is 20x.
