Well done, Identity!

173. A can complete a work in 6 days and B can complete the same work in 8 days. Together, in how many days can they finish the work?

174. The rates of working of A and B are in the ratio 3:4. What would be the ratio of the number of days taken by them to finish the work?

175. A radio dealer marks a radio with a price which is 20% more than the cost price. He allows a discount of 10% on it. What is his gain percent?

Re: 10 second questions

Well done, John E Frankiln!
Identity,
The sum of n terms of an Arithmetic Progression is given by
Sn=n/2[2a+(n-1)d].
In #178, a = 1, d=4 and n=100.
Therefore, the sum to 100 terms is 50[398]=19900.

Re: 10 second questions

Very well done, Jane Fairfax. The nth term is given by the formula tn=a+(n-1)d where a is the first term and d is the common difference.

Re: 10 second questions

Identity, well done, your answer to #183 is correct.
The answer to #182 is d, not -d.
The answer to #181 is 9/4.

The sum of roots of the quadratic equation
ax²+bx+c=0 is -b/a and the product of their roots is c/a.
Alternatively, given the roots, the quadratic equation is
x²-(sum of the roots)x + product of the roots=0.
