Re: Brain Teasers

20)

1 There are 5 houses in five different colors.
2 In each house lives a person with a different nationality
3 These five owners drink a certain drink, smoke a certain brand of cigar and keep a certain pet.
4 No owners have the same pet, smoke the same brand of cigar nor drink        the same drink.

The question is, who owns the fish?

Hints:

1  The Brit lives in the red house
2  The Swede keeps dogs as pets
3  The Dane drinks tea
4  The green house is on the left of the white house
5  The green house owner drinks coffee
6  The person who smokes Paul Mall rears birds
7  The owner of the yellow house smokes Dunhill
8  The man living right in the center drinks milk
9  The Norwegian lives in the first house
10 The man who smokes Blends lives next to the one who keeps cats
11 The man who keeps horses lives next to the man who smokes Dunhill
12 The owner who smokes Bluemaster drinks beer
13 The German smokes Prince
14 The Norwegian lives next to the blue house
15 The man who smokes Blends has a neighbor who drinks water.

Could you cite the source that attributes this puzzle to Einstein?

Zebra Puzzle
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Zebra Puzzle is a well-known logic puzzle.

It is often called "Einstein's Puzzle" or "Einstein's Riddle" because it is said to have been invented by Albert Einstein as a boy. Some claim that Einstein said "only 2 percent of the world's population can solve it". It is also sometimes attributed to Lewis Carroll. However, there is no known evidence for Einstein's or Carroll's authorship.

There are several versions of this puzzle. The version below is quoted from the first known publication in Life International magazine on December 17, 1962. The March 25, 1963, issue contained the solution given below and the names of several hundred solvers from around the world.

Re: Brain Teasers

ZHero&careless, there is a tiny mistake in the hourglass thing.
You don't have to flip it over when the 11 one ends, just start the egg.
Because 2 minutes of sand are in the bottom and 7 are in the top already.

Re: Brain Teasers

23)
Once in my life I happened to make an inquiry to thee young girls Jyoti, Renu and Suman, about their ages, this is what I was told:
Suman: The difference between Renu's age and mine is three years.
Jyoti: Renu is the youngest.
Renu: Either I am 24 years old or Jyoti 25or Suman 26.
Jyoti: All are above 24 years of age.
Suman: I am the eldest if and only if Renu is the youngest.
Renu: Suman is elder to me.
Jyoti: I am the eldest.
Renu: Suman is not 27 years old.
Suman: The sum of my age and Jyoti's is two more than twice Renu's age.
They also conveyed to me that one of them had been telling a lie throughout whereas others had spoken the truth and nothing but the truth.
Can you figure out how old is each?

Re: Brain Teasers

After a long time...
here r some popular puzzles:

24. This concerns a man who designed a square house with windows on all 4 sides, each window having a view to the south. No bay windows (which would take care of 3 sides) or anything of that sort. How is this possible?

25. A certain sportsman, experienced in shooting small game, was out on his first bear hunt. Suddenly he spotted a huge bear about a 100 yards due east. Seized with panic, the hunter ran - not directly away from the bear, but, in his confusion, due north. Having covered about a 100 yards, he regained his presence of mind, stopped, turned, and killed the bear - who had not moved from his original position - by shooting due south. Have you all the data clearly in mind? very well, then; what color was the bear?

26. We can agree, can we not, that the better of two clocks is the one that more often shows the correct time? Now suppose we are offered our choice of two clocks, one of which looses a minute a day. while the other does not run at all. Which one shall we accept? Common sense tells us to take the one that looses a minute a day, but if we were to stick to our agreement we shall have to take the one that doesn't run at all. Why?
