Hmmm, that person joined the rest of the family and did not care about the m's. It was that persons decision. In name, still an m but not really.
It is just a figure of speech, that person wanted nothing to do with the remaining m's. You see, we were not members of their group. In a sense we were their enemy and they were ours.
