Re: Chatroom

Hi;

I think MIF gave me the reasons for a negative when I asked this question a long time ago. Those reasons are still valid today.

Re: Chatroom

Well I know this is probably pretty old, but I still think it is a good idea.  It also is able to be moderated more easily than one might think.  On one of my forums I had in the past (before I deleted it), I was planning on doing this with Chattango.  I had both a members and moderators only section, and attaching it ONLY to those pages would have restricted guests from being able to use it.  The downfall would have been to create an account elsewhere, but it would also keep the clutter on the website itself down, and could talk to people more directly if they are available.  Plus, say any trolls who joined, could still be kicked or banned.  Now I'm not suggesting specifically Chattango (if that even exists anymore).  But I'm pretty sure there are some easier ways to set it up and keep it noticeably more moderated.  If there are other issues, I'm just simply making a suggestion.  But I really do think it could help...

Re: Chatroom

That would be up to MIF.

Re: Chatroom

Well, that is why I'm still suggesting it, so whoever is able can see it.  If they don't want it, then so be it.  I just thinking it would help and if I gave it some thought, I could probably make a few arguments for its case.

Re: Chatroom

You are not alone in making this suggestion. I too asked about this feature. When the reason why it can not be was explained to me I was forced to agree. Those reasons still hold today.

What are the reasons if you don't mind me asking?

Re: Chatroom

Have you ever heard of SOSA and PIPA?

Re: Chatroom

No, I don't believe I have.  What is SOSA and PIPA?

Re: Chatroom

The short version is that they are two laws that enforce internet censorship.

Re: Chatroom

Interesting would you mind if I asked what those laws were, or some link to what they are?

Re: Chatroom

I can not find any information on the internet about them. This is what I remember. An international committee was to be formed that would watch over the entire internet. They would establish the rules of conduct for it. If some site or forum said anything at all that they did not like the site owner ( MIF ) would be responsible and the site or forum closed down. Even something politically incorrect would be grounds to do so. Chats are impossible to moderate and draw in lots of people who just are looking for a place to chat. They would not have to be members. If one of them said anything out of line the forum would be held responsible and action taken.

Moderation of the forum is a full time job as it is. We do not have the personnel to monitor a chat 24/7.

Re: Chatroom

Interesting, I'll do some investigating into this then.  Because I do believe there is a way to get it to work still.  Such as, as I stated earlier, applying the chat room to say only members only areas and such; someplace that guests would not have access to it.
