Yes, you are right about the 300. I was counting the numbers that have at least one 3 in them and that is 271.

Your question was how many 3's are there in 1...1000, in any position. The correct answer is 300. Sorry for not reading the question correctly, I apologize, I even thought you had made a mistake.
