Actually, I am intrigued by this question in the first paper itself:
Whats the definition coming to rest anyway? Doesnt it mean that the object no longer continues to move? 
Or is this a question on the English language rather than physics?

I always thought rest meant that the net force on the object was 0.

That would just mean that the object isn't accelerating.

I think coming to rest just means that the velocity at a certain time is 0.
If there is a net force on the object then the rest will only be instantaneous, but it will be rest nonetheless.
I like how the answer in Toast's third picture got a mark. 
Why did the vector cross the road?
It wanted to be normal.

Thats what I understand by coming to rest the velocity becomes 0.
When theres no net force, the acceleration is 0 but the velocity doesnt have to be 0.

I'm with the student in the last image of Toast's post. (S)he answered the question as asked. It absolutely infuriates me when teachers ask things in such an ambiguous way that you have no idea what to do.
My other favorite is "discuss"--"Discuss the function f...". The only sensible response is, "What about it do you want to know?" But you can't very well put that if you expect points on the assignment.
