If only they had V1 E3 Part 4... the ending to Part 3 was hilarious!

There is something my science teacher told the class way back in 8th grade when I was half paying attention, he said something about how water should in fact be

#955 Re: Help Me ! » Imposible Question » 2007-06-16 21:22:07

I would say 'indeterminate' is a little more accurate than 'undefined'. Undefined means 1/0 or 2/0, where the answer is just that, but indeterminate means there is more than one answer.

Sorry, there was an extra part to that question

What values can k take if the rectangle exists?

I was wondering if anyone would like to have a go at this question from my test and post the answers, because I'm still wondering if I got them right. Thanks.

Maybe you might wanna include that

ms-¹ × 3.6 = kmh-¹
kmh-¹ ÷ 3.6 = ms-¹

Round down?  No.  This would give an incorrect answer because you need more than this many weeks to get it.

Round up.

Eh... so you mean round up in BOTH cases?

I just finished my Facts, Skills and Applications exam too big_smile, it was incredibly easy, hope the next one won't be! None of the questions were 'difficult', they just required checking and double-checking, so trickiest question was a simplifying surds one.

#964 Re: Help Me ! » Isosceles Triangle » 2007-06-10 18:45:31

Well, since it is an isosceles triangle, the two base angles must be equal, and all the angles add up to 180 degrees:

B + 2A = 180         ...[1]

You are given that:

B = 0.5A                ...[2]

Now that you have this pair of simultaneous equations, you can substitute [2] into [1] to solve for A

0.5A + 2A = 180
2.5A = 180
A = 72

Then, substitute A = 72 into [2]:

B = 0.5(72)
B = 36

Hence, angle A is 72 degrees, and angle B is 36 degrees. You can check these answers against the question instructions to make sure they match.

If a question asks you to find the 'minimum number of weeks' an investment will surpass $1000 and

a) If there are 1 or 2 decimal places
b) If there is an irrational number of weeks

For each scenario do you round down or leave as a decimal. What do you Think?

#967 Re: Help Me ! » Triangle inside a circle. » 2007-06-09 18:20:29

This is how I did the problem:
Let the side lengths of the equilateral triangle be x.

Given: AD = AB = BD = x

Construct: Angle bisector of A
                Line from E to D

Consider ΔADE and ΔACD.
              /_ADE = /_ACD (right angles)
              /_DAE = /_CAD (common)
              ΔADE ~ ΔACD (AA)

Hence,

Also,

Hence,

Hence,

That's 3247.6m²

Am i right?

Anthony, why can't you directly challenge the proof offered in post #25? What's so hard to accept about that? If you are right, then algebra is wrong, and I don't think algebra is wrong. Could you please state what you think is wrong about the proof?

#969 Re: Help Me ! » similarity and congruency » 2007-06-09 04:46:29

Congruency:
SAS (Two sides and included angle, Side angle side)
ASA (Two angles and a side, Angle side Angle)
SSS (3 side lengths equal, side side side)
RHS (right angle, hypotenuse, side)

Similarity:
PAP (Proportion angle Proportion)
PPP (Proportion proportion proportion)
AAA (often shortened to AA, Angle angle angle)

Graphs y = mx and y = 6 - mx are drawn. The intersection of the two lines is M.

Find, in terms of m, the x-intercept of the graph with equation y = 6 -mx

0 = 6 - mx
mx = 6
x = 6/m
so (6/m, 0)

Find in terms of m, the coordinates of the point of intersection of the two graphs.
mx = 6 - mx
2mx = 6
x = 6/(2m)
x=3/m
y=3
Hence: (3/m, 3)

Find the area, in terms of m, of triangle OMN
OMN = 1/2(6/m*3) = 1/2(18/m) = 9/m units^2

Find the value of m when the are of the triangle OMN is 6sqrt(3). Express your answer in simplest form with a rational denominator
