Meh, I still prefer the old version. tongue

But yes, impressive. If only someone could write a million more words for this poem.

Re: Pi to a Million Decimal Places!

Hey, there's another way to memorize the first like, 10 decimal places. First, memorize this:
May I have a large container of orange juice now please?
Then just count the number of letters in each word and put a decimal point after 3.
3.141926536
I just like to leave it like pi.

Re: Pi to a Million Decimal Places!

But π, more accurately has 5 as its 10th decimal place.

I don't necessarily like the poems that help to remember π, since it is actually just as easy to memorise it from memory...

Re: Pi to a Million Decimal Places!

simron left out the 4th digit in the decimal portion of pi, a 5, in post #27, but it's just a typo.

Now I only know pi to 150 places.  I recorded some of it into my mp3 player so it plays it into my head once in a while
when I'm listening to other *.wav files I put in the recorded subdirectory of the Zen Nano 1GB.  Nice toy!

If you can't get to the million digits, try index314.html at the end.

Re: Pi to a Million Decimal Places!

I'm at a steady 250-ish... haven't found the time to memorise anymore. At one point I wanted to go for the world record, but it seems a little pointless now, as I'd have to spend several years of my life doing it - which I would prefer not to do.

Good thing to have in your back pocket, though. I've found that it has helped me memorise other things, such as essays - you can hone your technique with pi.

Re: Pi to a Million Decimal Places!

How I remember pi is dividing it into little patterns or groups. For example:

3.
1415
926
535
8979
323
84
626...
etc.

Re: Pi to a Million Decimal Places!

I am memorizing some more of pi, this time, without a sequence.
So I know each digit by what digit it is numbered into pi.
So if you say "what is the 126th digit of pi?", I would say "4".
It's an interesting way to do it.  I use the 100 people I have
numbered to associate clothing and places with them and make
scenarios for each digit.  Like a purple headset might mean the
number 7, and the person might be person #55, so that might
mean to me that the 156 decimal place is 7.  I numbered the
101st decimal place a 00, so I have an offset value.

Re: Pi to a Million Decimal Places!

Today I was reading pi off a sheet aloud and when I got to about
6 or 7 thousand digits, I found "9898989"!  Nice find!  It is 7 digits
long, which beats the Feynman point (999999) by one digit.

Hi TESTU;

I am not following you. .999999... is an integer, π is transcendental.

Re: Pi to a Million Decimal Places!

Let's make this Clearer!...

Pi = Has a Base Number of 3 Followed by Infinite .(Random Numbers)

Infinite/Recurring 0.999...  Has a Base Number of 0 Followed by Infinite .(9's)

So the Differences are the Base Numbers & the Following Infinite Numbers!

He meant that the number before the decimal is 0.
