So with this one am I doing it correctly
7.54
2.01
same as
754
201
times that which gives me 2154
add the decimal place back which should be 0.2154
I checked it on a calculator but my answer was wrong and I am not sure where I went wrong.
Thanks Luca, you are a life saver if you have any problems with your pc please let me know then I can return the favor
Hello it was a long time agao since I was at school, anyway my question is this how do I times numbers like these
0.05 x 5.60 = (the answer is 0.28) but I am not sure how they got it.
I have tried setting the number up correctly like so:
5.60
x 0.05
------
------
but all I get is 0.00 as the answer
Thanks
Joe
thanks i get it now
thanks can i ask how do you take decimal numbers like 3.6 away from whole numbers like 30 i can't seem to do it? how do you got about setting the numbers up like when you do taking away i would do this
10
- 20
-------
-------
Ok so with this one
"A Box of decorations which cost £30 last xmas is reduced in price by 12% what is the revised price?"
what i did was 12x30 which is 90/100 0.09 took that away and i got £21 is that correct
"How Many pieces of string each measuring 1.5m, can be cut from a ball which is 90m long?"
now i thought about saying to myself if it was 1m it would be 90 now since they want a meter and a half find half of 90 which 45 and take that away from 90 would that leave you with the answer?
Question 2
"a set male in a resturant is £5.60. if senior citizens are given 5% reduction, what would the bill amount to if 10 senior citizens had such a meal"
this is what i had since there is 10 of them the bill would be 560 and the percent would be 50% so 50% of 560 is 280 so the bill would be £280, am i correct in thinking this
thanks
Joe
thanks guys/gals
Sorry guys one more question
"A health club raises its annual subscription of £240 by 15% what will the new subscription cost?" when i work it out i get £360
240x15 =360 now when i look at the answer it has £260 are they wrong as i cant understand if they are right where i got the extra 100 from
OK so for this example
"An Investor withdraws 40% of her saving from her account wich holds £800. how much is left"
so i would convert the 40% to decimal 0.40 then times it by 800 which is the same as 40x800 which is 3200 put the decimal point back in get 320 so the answer is 320 am i right?
Hey all
I am trying to learn to multiply whole numbers by decimals so that I can work out percentages, I found this example in a book
"find 15% of 60 I understand how to convert it to decimal 15x100 is 0.15 and then it says 0.15x60 =9 but I dont understand where they got the nine from i tried multiplying 15x60 and i got 135 add the decimal point in and i get 1.35 but still no 9, if i can understand how this was done it would make my life that little easier.
thanks all
Joe
how would i go about doing that with long division? 9/60 all i know is it goes in 1 with 3 left over
i seem to be having trouble dividing 60 by 9 in my head as that is what i need to be able to do i can get 6.666.... but not 0.15
sorry for taking long to reply back thanks for you help i can do most maths questions but when percentages and decimals etc.. are involved then that when i get stuck
hey all,
I was wondering how do i work out percentages from money for example as shown below.
What percentage of £60 is £9?
In a police HQ car park there are 140 vehicles. 20% of these are police vehicles. How many are non-police vehicles?
also....
How many 7 x 7cm tiles are needed to cover an area that measures 84 x 84cm?
is the right answer this 7*12 = 84, then 7*12 = 84 then 12*12 = 144 so i should need 144 tiles
thanks all
I understand now i was not thinking thanks, one more thing lets say if i saw a fraction like 6 over 5 is that the same as 6 divided by 5?
ok is there an easy way to multiple that for example do 60*3 then 4*4 or not as i find it really difficult to multiply fractions
hey all,
i have this question in my test (practice)
Q) If a car is travalling at 64 mph how many miles will it have travalled in 45 minutes?
this is what i did just take 15 minutes away, but it turned at i was wrong the answer is really 48 but i am not sure how they got it, i have even tried taking 15 away then adding from lets say 60 which gives me 45 then adding the 4 back on which gives me 49?
Plz Help
Joe
one more thing am i correct in think that 0.2 can also be written as a half or as 50 as a whole number?
Hey it's me again
umm i understand the formula when working out percentages for example 3/20*100 the only downside is a can't seem to work it out and i dont know how to
this is my way which is wrong , 3 goes into 20 6 times then if we times that by 100 i get 600% but the answer is 15% which has confused
what am i doing wrong, as i dont know how to divide correctly?
ok i can understand slightly now however i have problems when it comes to the division as for this practive test i am not allowed to use a caluculator heres another one 5/10 * 100 what i would do is 5/10 = 2 becuase 5*2=10 now that i have 2 i would times it by 100 which would = 200% but to me it don't look right,
so if you know of any sites that would help me with my division that would provide tutorials with step by step guides then please let me know
p.s.
i have looked at the division tutorials on this site but they are over my head and not detailed enought lol
i really appricate you helping me kind sir
j
Hey Null,
I seem to have trouble dividing like the final question i got it down to 0.4 and then times by 8 gives me 32% is that correct lol or am i miles out maths is not my strongest subject as you can tell
hey all,
sorry for the lenght of my post i am hoping if somone can help me answer these questions as i am not sure how to work them out.
1) A traffic warden works a 40hr, 5-day week. How many hours are worked per day?
2) In a drink drive campaign officers were instructed to stop ninety vehicles over a three-day period. It was then decided to extend this for an extra 7 days. How many vehicles were stopped in total over the seven extra days? (i came up with 270) but i think it is wrong
3) Ten people were required for a police identity parade. Of the ten people chosen, one was guilty of the offence, what percentage were innocent? (my answer was 99% but it said 90% how is that true)
5) What percentage of £60 is £9? (i can never seem to understand percentages, i know my tables kinda so is there anyway i can use my tables to work out percentages)
6) How many 7 x 7cm tiles are needed to cover an area that measures 84 x 84cm?
7) Two out of every eight motorists stopped at a DOT census are questioned. If 408 motorists are stopped, how many are questioned?
thanks i would be greatfull if you can help
thank you that helped me a lot however could i ask if there is a simple to tutorial on how to do long division as the tutorial on this site confused me a little, thanks
Joe
Question 2 is a trick question.
Anyway, the other two are straightforward.
yes but is there a step by step guide? my maths was an E GCSE IN SCHOOL
