I have a problem that goes like this:
"A class survey on pet types shows that 80% of students have cats. If the survey gave a total of 45 cats, how many pets would the class have altogether?"
The answer given to this was 50. I don't understand how this works! Is the answer wrong? Am I just not working it out right?
I'd really appreciate an answer, and a clear explanation. I have a test on this coming up, and it would be really useful!
Much thanks,

Thank you very much ^_^
So, I know how to figure out averages and all, but how would I figure out a question like:
"Jeremy caught 8 fishes in a competition. The mean weight of the fishes was 4.1125.
He forgot to make his own record of the weight of the last fish, but the first seven (in kgs) were: 4.4, 5.1, 6, 2.9, 3.3, 4.2 and 4.
What was the weight of the last fish?"
Is it just a trial-and-error thing, or is there a way of figuring it out? Do tell
Thanks!
