If total number of penguins is x.
Year 1 : x (original number of penguins) + x/2 (the babies) - x/5 (dead penguins) = x+3x/10
Year 2 : (x+3x/10) + 3(x+3x/10)/10 = x+3x/10+3x/10+9x/100 = x+2*3x/10+(3x/10)² = (x+3x/10)²
Year 3 : well I don't have the patience to do further
