Hi sou5437;
Ramblings:
A long time ago a bunch of financial geniuses ( LOL ) called a certain person in to do this type of analysis. He informed them that extrapolation or trying to predict the future from past data trends was a violation of statistics and unreliable. Obviously that dude who looked a lot like me was insane or just an idiot. Maybe... Then they called in bigger brains who told them the same thing. Exasperated at all these idiots they called in a someone else (from a field where they masquerade as mathematicians ). He drew up and decided who should get the loans based solely on past data. He had many charts and easels and multi colored graphs and a lovely singing voice.
My sister a senior VP for one of these corporations has informed me that all loaning institutions in this country are now stuck billions of dollars based on analysis like above. They are having to beg the current administration to pours billions into them so they can continue operating.
Question: Why is it still being taught?
Well I would interpret that in a different way.If those big guys had solved these problem earlier, they migh have been not taken such huge loans to create problem for all of us.
ABC Branch of XYZ Bank has decided to give 10 Lakh of loan each on long term basis to only two of their customers (accountholders), who are businessmen of the locality. About 20 businessmen had applied for loan in order to develop their business further. In order to reject some of the applications (as the fund was limited), the Bank decided that accountholder who had maintained a minimum balance of 50000 INR would only be considered for the loan. As a result, 10 applications were automatically rejected as they were not satisfying the requirement of minimum balance. Now, the 10 applications remained and it was found that monthly minimum balance in all the cases were more than 50000 INR for the last 12 months. Their account details of monthly minimum balance are given below.
