True true,Its my national olympiad problem which i was not able to crack and i lost out.I am really bugged at that one.

Hey is nobody going to try and help me?

#4 Re: Help Me ! » limit question » 2006-12-02 14:43:48

No limit only defines the neighburhoood of that point but not the point itself. The point istself is the value of the function at that point but we want to know about the neighbourhood of that point so limit does not give the precise value but gives the limiting value.

#5 Re: Help Me ! » limit question » 2006-12-02 14:18:36

the answer would be

(x^2 + 2xh + h^2 - x^2)/h = (2xh+h^2 )/h = 2x + h.And yes You have to eliminate h from the bottom in this case as h tends to 0 then expression tends to infinite.Limit means the limiting value of the expression which is a finite not an infinite quantity unless the limit is an infinite limit which is not possible in this case.

the inequality is

-(a^2)-(b^2)-(c^2)+ac-ab+bc-a(c^2)+(a^2)b-(b^2)c+a(b^2)+b(c^2)  <= 1.Given that abc = 1 and a,b,c are real and positive numbers.

#8 Re: Help Me ! » more than one way ... » 2006-12-02 04:19:35

the best way is using graphs.Use incresing part to find the extremums and plot the graph. You will get an extremely accurate answer.

I find these particular things for triangle really lengthy to calculate.Any shortcuts will be greatly appreciated. This is when the equations of the three lines alone are given for the triangle.

The usual method was for incenter to 1)find the points of intersection
                                                      2)find the lengths of the lines(Distance Between the points)
                                                      3)use the formula

I would like to know smaller and better methods

It should hit in such a way that it should rebound with same angle of reflection and go into the hole right.

That is what you have to find out where does the displacement not distance

A carrom Board(4 ft x 4 ft) has the queen at the centre. The Queen , hit by the striker moves to the front edge, rebounds and goes in the hole behind the striking line.Find   (A) the magnitude of displacement  of the queen from the centre to the front edge , (B)from the front ede to the hole.

Requesting a quick reply.
