hello
i have encountererd a problem with my assignment.
finidng the least square system of a system of coordinates.
i have been able to find it without the use of matrices. but the question insists of using matrices.
here is the questiion
consider the following data (x,y)= (0.2,4.459), (0.4,5.05),(0.6,6.2), (0.8,6.6) , (1.0,7.4)
Find the best straight lines , y=mx+c through all these points, by solving a least squares sysem of the type

by defining the matrix A, the column vectors U and B appropriately.

how to find matrix A, U and B ?

please help
thnx in advance

hi
i got an assignment to prove this theorem.
2 coplanar couples having equal and opposite moments, cancel each other.
there is a hint given.
Case 1: the lines of action of the two couples intersect
Case 2: the lines of action of the two couples do not intersect

please help
thnx

but y u didn't start with

and use binomial expansion?
would not it be better?

where
    and

and by De Moivre Theorem

now consider 1 -i =

since cos(-x) = cos x

now with De Moivre Theorem
(1-i)^7 =

           =

           =
since cos(-x) = cos x

           =

since sin(7pi/4) = -sqrt(2)/2

           =

           =

           =

since (1/sqrt(2)^6) = (1/8)

           =
