Hello, Pratheepa. Now I know 4 people from the US!

#452 Re: Help Me ! » Help with finding the percentage » 2007-12-01 16:19:13

Or, if i were you, I would just divide 25000 by 4,which is a whole lot easier, since

25% = 1/4

And more easy shortcuts would be:

1%   = 1/100
2%   = 1/50
5%   = 1/20
10% = 1/10
20% = 1/5
50% = 1/2

I just hope you could use these for future references...

Sorry, Jane, but i do think it divides the triangle into six equal (at least by area) parts.

#454 Re: Puzzles and Games » The Nhoj Files » 2007-12-01 16:11:44

Sorry, that's not the correct answer, Zach. If NAIA was indeed built in 1937, it does not contradict anything...

A hint though, you might be on the right track...

No. 7 is still open for takers!

#455 Re: Puzzles and Games » The Nhoj Files » 2007-11-30 15:23:23

Ok, no. 7:

The Nhoj Case File #7: The case of the Psychic Letter

My friend, who is a Philippine Historian, though particularly new to the job, had a letter sent to him anonymously. This letter seems to be an original 1983 letter, sent to Benigno Aquino Jr. the week before he left the United States, and stated that he, exactly one week later, will die. My friend thinks it is real, and hopes to place it in a museum.

I, however, am a bit skeptical. So, I read it:

Mr. Aquino,

You will be destined to return to the ashes when the hour strikes 7 moons from today. However, it is my distinct hope that you will break your destiny, and truly overthrow the Dictator. Read this letter carefully.

DO NOT accept the dragons that the Dictator shall give you. They shall only breathe fire down your neck, whilst blaming another ruined soul.

DO NOT touch down on the NAIA, for this will only encourage your trip to the afterlife.

Lastly, DO NOT let any eyes touch this paper, for they, too, might break destiny and cause chaos to return.

Sincerely, A Faithful See

"Hmm, I don't think so!" I said. Really, historians are farsighted!

Now, you know what to do... Good Luck!

#457 Re: Help Me ! » Medians and Area » 2007-11-30 14:53:36

Or...

Hmm, If you use three medians, they will divide the whole triangle into six parts of equal area. Since triangle BPC has two of these areas, it is exactly one-third of the original triangle.

How about that?

#459 Re: Help Me ! » Medians and Area » 2007-11-30 00:27:38

EDIT:
However, after much thought, I found proof, based on the formula of area of a triangle:

Since the third median would be the height of any triangle, it is split by the other two into 1/3 and 2/3 of the original median(which is the height). Since the 1/3 of the line is the height of triangle BPC, the ratio of their areas will then be 1:3. So, multiply the area of Triangle BPC by 3 and you get the area!

P.S. NEVER (mind)
P.S.S. Sorry, if the solution is only based on the area formula. Hey, before I read about medians after reading this post, I never even knew what it was. If anyone can find a more technical proof, please do.
P.S.S.S. So, DO never trust this guy from Pluto!(deleted from original postscript)

#461 Re: Help Me ! » Medians and Area » 2007-11-29 22:33:14

I'm guessing, but maybe it is 66 square units...

I only did this visually, and it looks as if triangle BPC is one third of the area of triangle ABC, so...
Voila!

#462 Re: Introductions » Hi! » 2007-11-28 23:40:10

I'll be your friend (especially if you live in pluto)

#463 Re: Puzzles and Games » Chess Puzzles » 2007-11-23 23:28:37

It has occurred to me that Ganesh seems to be missing these last few days.

Does anyone have any ideas to why this is so?

Not a game question:

What is included in "the arts"?

#465 Re: Maths Is Fun - Suggestions and Comments » "Math is Fun" in Spanish? » 2007-11-23 22:50:34

I might like it when it contains something more than coming soon.
Just wondering, why didn't you write "coming soon" in Spanish?

Just wondering, though...
Just wondering...

We don't want Devante to die?
That seems harsh to say...
Who knows...
Sorry, Devante, If I really kill you!

#468 Re: Guestbook » tell me » 2007-11-23 22:32:56

Ok, so I know 3 people are from the US, then.

Hmm... Where is this site from, anyway?

I mean, where does MathsIsFun live?

#469 Re: Introductions » i'm crazy! » 2007-11-23 22:28:48

Well, hello Bunny. I'm from Pluto, so we're not that unrelated!

#470 Re: Puzzles and Games » The Nhoj Files » 2007-11-22 17:26:06

Oh, yeah. Before I post anything new, has anyone figured out where the faith diamond might be?

#471 Re: Euler Avenue » Contradictions » 2007-11-22 17:18:56

So, how do you solve these equations?

#472 Re: Guestbook » tell me » 2007-11-22 16:54:40

Yeah, you're right.I actually don't know anyone from the US, too. Of course, I'm relatively new here, I don't know the nationalities of most people here, even of those I know!

So, don't trust this guy from pluto...

#473 Re: Guestbook » Heya EVERYONE REPLY! » 2007-11-22 16:46:32

So, you both are from another planet? small universe!
I'm from pluto, actually. I'm still carbon-based and currently reside in the archipelagic nation, waiting for my chance to... wait, I have uncovered to much!

I think many here are from the US...

Not me, however...

That's a bit repetitive, don't you think? Can i be next?
