Silly Girl!!!! tongue

Multiply both sides of 3K^2=q by 16 and u'll get eq.........(2) above

now, as....
48K^2=3p^2..........(1)
48K^2=16q............(2)

hence....
3p^2=16q

If equation is

how can we get x next ??

Sorry but in d above expression, first term X won't be there because first person shakes hand with X-1 people...
It shud be...
(X-1)+(X-2)+.......+3+2+1 which is the sum of first X-1 natural nos.

Hint:use formula for sum of X terms of an AP with first term 1 and Common Diff. 1.

Hmmm...

Remember:Whenever any Relation between Roots is given, its always Best to Start with Sum and Products of the Roots...
This will help u solve Most of the Problems in the Examination! tongue

Let one root be K.
Hence, other root will be 3K.

Sum of Roots: K+3K=-p  (-b/a)
===>  4K=-p
===>  16K^2=p^2 (square both sides)
===>  48K^2=3p^2 (multiply both sides by 3) .......(1)

Product of Roots:K.3K=q  (c/a)
===>  3K^2=q
===>  48K^2=16q .......(2)

Result from (1) & (2)!

Read the Question once again...

If the ratio between first three terms and first six terms of GP is 125 : 152. Find the common ratio.

As the No. of Terms is Specified, we Can't Use the formula for Sum to Infinity!!! neutral

Why do we take that the first person shakes 99 hands ????

i mean , why 99 ? Why not any other number?

hi!!!!
Let the no. of people be X.
Hence, 1st person will shake hand with everybody else except He Himself i.e. X-1 people!
2nd will shake hand with X-2 people (not X-1 coz he's already shook hand with 1st!)!
and so on....
Hence, total no. of hand shakes=X+(X-1)+(X-2)+.....+3+2+1=4950!

Bobbym was just showing u that X=100 is the Right Answer!!

There Are Two Formulas To Find Sn In Gp

One , To Be Used When r>1 ,

Another, When r <1

Since We Dont Know R Here, How To Use This ??? This Formula Is To Be Used When r<1???? Why Did We Use This ??? Please Explain???

Hi!!
the formula for r<1 is used for Sum of Terms till Infinity!
it cannot be used here because the no. of terms is fixed (3 and 5) here!
the formula

can be used for both r>1 and r<1.
whereas
can only be used for r<1 and Sum to Infinity (not for 3 terms or 5 terms)   shame !!!

#494 Re: This is Cool » 1 4 2 8 5 7 and 2^n MYTH » 2010-03-29 20:41:57

u get one of the nos. out of the set {1, 4, 2, 8, 5, 7} if u take any no. out of this set and raise it to any power!!
just {0, 3, 6 9} are out of the set!

eg.
5^2=25=2+5=7
5^3=125=1+2+5=8
and so on...
Its quite obvios from the result of 2^n... Right??
cool
