Algebra:Sort Plane Shapes
Write a title for each group of plane shapes.
Help!
My daughter brought home this homework assignment and I'm not sure what to do!!!
There's a group of 4 hexagons, a group with 2 rectangles a parrallelogram and a trapezoid, a group with a square,hexagon,parellelogram & a trapezoid and a group with a 2 squares, a triangle and a rectangle.
Any suggestions?

Not being able to see the sheet, I can only imagine what is required.
It does say "Write a title", so perhaps just write "hexagons" for the first group.
The next group are all quadrilaterals.
The next group are quadrilaterals and a hexagon, so perhaps polygon is the only answer.
But then the next group are all polygons.
Does any group all have equal sides, because then you could title them "equilaterals"
Unless you are supposed to classify within each group, in which case it may simply be by number of sides, because everythin you mentioned has 3, 4 or 5 sides only.

This is hillarious I have the same problem and my ap senior student has no idea about it, I consider myself as average in the smarts dept. and i have no clue......
Tecnically they are all polygons.

Very well done to everyone who found this topic lying around in the archives and posted in it instead of just making a new one. Not many people would have.
But as MathsIsFun is saying, we can't really help you much more than we have already unless we can see the sheet. They seem like quite confusing questions.

I have the answer,
You see the problem was we were all thinking like adults. The first group was... is "hexagons", all the same shape but different sizes. The second group is "shapes with four sides and four angles". The third group, because they are different they are called "shapes with more than four sides and angles". And the last group are "shapes with more than three sides and angles". This info came straight from the instructor. I hope this help all of us in the future. There are 2 or more correct answers for eace but you have to think in simple terms. See page 319 chapter 18 PLANE SHAPES Harcourt Math Florida edition.
By the way if you log on to the www.harcourtschool.com web site you need a name to use as a pass word and if you dont have a book you will never know it....NEWMAN, BENNET, BURTON, MCLEOD, ROBY, SCHNEER, LUCKIE, ANDREWS. Pick one, NEWMAN worked for me....
Quadrilateral is also acceptable for the second question and may be more sought after by the instructor.....
