Re: Equations with parenthesis?

Um... well... ugh, I feel pressured! I don't know what to do! Um...

√49 = 7

There. It is positive. The math does not lie. Correct?

Re: Equations with parenthesis?

So it is positive, so what! Does that prove that

( 5a + 7 ) ( 5a + 7 )  is the answer?

I'm sorry! I thought you wanted me to prove it was positive!

Yes, thats right!

Re: Equations with parenthesis?

What is right? Must I evoke the image of Robert "Big Bobby" Baccala to get you motivated?

Re: Equations with parenthesis?

No....

( 5a + 7 )(5a + 7)

*f* 5a^2 = 25a^2

*o* 5a * 7 = 35a

*i* 7 * 5a = 35a

*l* 7 * 7 = 49

= 25a^2 + 35a + 35a + 49

= 25a^2 + 70a + 49

There! Take that bobbym!

Did you look at the post I suggested or must Bobby Baccala show his face again?

25a^2 - 70a + 49

Yes, I did. But I'm still a bit lost... and please no, i would rather not see him again.

Good, I have a means to frighten you into correct math.

Do you remember what your factorization came out to?

Did you see that it does not multiply out to the original problem?

Re: Equations with parenthesis?

Nope!

= 25a^2 + 70a + 49

See post # 1080.

The problem was 25a^2 - 70a + 49

What do you think went wrong?

Re: Equations with parenthesis?

Let us go back to this:

( 5a +- 7 ) ( 5a +- 7 ) where you made the choice of ++. Was there anything else to do?

Why, would you do such a thing? That is kooky, that is silly, that is a dilly.

Re: Equations with parenthesis?

( 5a - 7 )(5a - 7)

*f* 5a^2 = 25a^2

*o* 5a * -7 = -35a

*i* -7 * 5a = -35a

*l* -7 * -7 = 49

= 25a^2 - 35a - 35a + 49

= 25a^2 - 70a + 49

Very good! That is some math. No arguing with that.

Are your riled up and ready? Do you say to yourself I wish that I could set bobbym's face on fire and try to put it out with an ice pick? If so you are ready!

I'm thinking about a nap roughly an hour long. But when I return, I'd like to do more...

(I never thought I'd be saying that about math LOL)
