Graph Paper Maker

Created a (simple): Graph Paper Maker

Does it work for you guys?

Any special feature requests?

Re: Graph Paper Maker

hi MathsIsFun

Works for me.  And very useful.

I suppose a useful addition for me would be a way to vary the scales and grid lines to custom for any application.

And I've been looking (for a long time) for a triangular grid maker.  If you've got a spare minute smile

Works well.

Equilateral? Same scale for all three sides?

Re: Graph Paper Maker

Hi,

How about having logarithmic scales too?

Re: Graph Paper Maker

hi MathsIsFun,

Equilateral?

Well that's what is in my head; but being able to move one set of parallels to a different angle would be handy.

Same scale for all three sides?

For me, no scale at all, just the grid.  I was thinking of diagrams like isometric drawings and tesselations.

It's my one disappointment about Sketchpad.  I made a master by setting 60 angles and using lots of parallels but it isn't very flexible.  (such as changing the distances)

I was afraid someone would ask about this.

Hi MIF;

I was afraid someone would ask about this.

Then I am not going to ask about log log scales.

Re: Graph Paper Maker

Can you add a box for x and y that specifies how far between each visible line, so you can
make the lines wickid close together like 4mm if you want to.    I don't know enough
about programming to worry about whether some squares will be say 16 pixels apart and others 17 pixels apart, and if you can avoid this, and some printers are 600 dpi, etc.  It's over my head right now.

Re: Graph Paper Maker

New version! Now has log scales ... have I chosen good names? "x log", "y log", "log log" ?

Also for Mr Bundy, Esquire I have made a triangle. Just one triangle. Not much I know, but it is a start.

Remember to use refresh, look for "version 0.85".

Comments?

But if you're going to be recursive, perhaps you should make a fractal, triangular grid.

Re: Graph Paper Maker

hi MathsIsFun,

I've been having a think, and looking at your triangle.  You have undersold yourself.   I make that 315 triangles; but I may be wrong! (Challenge for someone?).

Now suppose we go back to the standard square grid, with normal scales.

Would it be easier to slant the y axis so that it makes a parallelogram-based grid?  From there is would be easy to adapt it, once printed, to make what I am looking for; but would also be useful for things like transformation geometry.

hi again, gAr

Thanks for the link.  I'll claim that figure is correct then (?)

Re: Graph Paper Maker

Hi Bob,

You're welcome.

Yes, it is correct, since the tenth term of the sequence is 315.

Re: Graph Paper Maker

Wow! I learn something everyday.  The latest is the nine line groupings in the log/log grid.  Wow, I guess I never counted them before, would have guessed 10, but nope, nine.  No zero.

Doh!

Unfortunately not easy ... would need to rewrite a lot of code ... but I will have a look soon.

hi MathsIsFun

Please don't spend a lot of time on it.  I can get by without.  I'm sure there are more important things for you to do.

But thanks anyway,

Bob

Re: Graph Paper Maker

Hi Bob,

Just to get an idea of what you want I have another option called "skewed". (Note: the grid doesn't respond to any options).

Is this heading in the right direction?

Re: Graph Paper Maker

hi MathsIsFun,

I think so.  Is this skewed idea still 'in your head' because the link still gives me the 'triangle' version?

The 'shot' below is something I did in 'Notebook' some years ago.  I had to 'weld' together several sets of dots to get that.  And what I really wanted was lines, not dots, but it was the best I could manage at the time.

Your triangle version is already superior to what I did, even if you took it no further.
