I saw on numb3rs yesterday that the irrational number "pi" is found in other area's of math, totally unrelated to circles. Is this true? And where else does pi appear?

Euler's equation!
This is because
(Cosθ + iSinθ)^n = Cos(nθ) + iSin(nθ)...DeMoivre's equation
and Cosθ + iSinθ=e^(iθ)
When θ=Pi (radians)
e^(i*pi) = Cos(pi) + iSin(pi)
We known Cos(pi)=-1 and Sin(pi)=0,
Therefore,
e^(i*pi)=-1
or
e^(i*pi) + 1 = 0
