Re: Oh,Oh,Oh,merry analysis!!!

Do you know that there is a difference between how a computer does mathematics and how humans do? This is a big part of error analysis which is what Big O is sometimes used for.

Hi;

The first rule is to look for the singularities of the function that are closest to the origin.

Re: Oh,Oh,Oh,merry analysis!!!

Values of z that turn it into an undefined function. That is a simple definition for this example.

Yes, that is the only one too. Do you know how to do a Laurent series?

Re: Oh,Oh,Oh,merry analysis!!!

You expand that function around the singularity. In this case 1. It usually requires some tricks to do that.

I have not done one in so long that I have forgotten how to. Because it is not the point of what we are doing use Alpha for now.

Re: Oh,Oh,Oh,merry analysis!!!

hi Stefy,

Excuse me for butting in here but I did say I would explain.

Mrs B and I have been away for a month.  Firstly, we went to Singapore for a brief stopover and then on to New Zealand for a tour around both islands.  We took an i pod and relied on the hotels' free wi fi to keep in touch.  It is really hard to do forum posts this way.  Firstly the screen is too small; then I keep making typos and having battles with the 'predictive text'; finally I cannot make diagrams and that accounts for most of my forum posts!

I didn't want to advertise our absence too much although we did leave a 'minder' at home to look after things.  And on 7th Feb I became a grandfather!!!!

Re: Oh,Oh,Oh,merry analysis!!!

It is a little difficult to see with your series but it means the terms with negative powers of the variables in them.
