Re: Random Quiz

5. Phobos and Deimos (Deimos may not be spelt correctly; I've no time to check the correct spelling).
15. Pico is a miniscule measurement of time when used before second. I think it's used to measure the speed of time, possibly.

Boy let me tell you what:
I bet you didn't know it, but I'm a fiddle player too.
And if you'd care to take a dare, I'll make a bet with you.

Re: Random Quiz

2. Mitochondria... aren't they parts of a cell which convert nutrients and food into energy?
13. pH of blood... I think around 7.4. Slightly basic.

Re: Random Quiz

Nice topic. Here are the ones that haven't been said already and that I know:

1) Camels! Bactrian has two humps, dromedary has one.
3) Million has the mill (meaning one) prefix, billion has the bill (meaning two) prefix and so on. I think Vigintillion has the prefix meaning twenty, which would mean that it has either 63 or 120 zeroes, depending on which numbering system you use. 120 is the correct one. =P
10) 1760 yards make a mile.
11) Nautical miles are used when on the sea. big_smile
15) Zach was close, but it's a prefix for any unit of measurement, not just time. Anyway, it means a billionth of whatever unit it's attached to. Or maybe a trillionth, again, depending on what numbering system you use. Billionth is correct.

Why did the vector cross the road?
It wanted to be normal.

Re: Random Quiz

4) Barbados
8) SCUBA is Self Contained Underwater Breathing Apparatus. ELISA could be (just guessing here) English Language Internationally Standardized Aptitude test.
11) A nautical mile is like 6080 ft as opposed to a mile's 5280. I don't know without looking it up, but I believe it derives from the old (still-used) measure of speed, the "knot". Knots used to be measured by throwing a float attached to a knotted rope out the back of a ship, then counting how fast the knots reeled out.
12a) Dichloro-diphenyl-trichloroethane is a banned pesticide. (Go organic chemistry!)

Re: Random Quiz

ibaraki-good.jpg

Good, only 6,7, and 14 to be answered!
(Pico = 10^-12, ELISA (8b) has not yet been answered).
Here are the answers:-
(6) Edson Arantes do Nascimento
(7) Baron Pierre de Coubertin of France
(8b) ELISA is an abbreviation for "enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay."
What is an ELISA test?
This is a rapid immunochemical test that involves an enzyme (a protein that catalyzes a biochemical reaction). It also involves an antibody or antigen (immunologic molecules).
(14) Barometer.
