Re: Odd many out

France is odd because it doesn't have 3 syllables.

Re: Odd many out

Italy is odd because it is the only country beginning with a vowel.

Belgium is odd because its the only one of the four which has its last three letters the same as  many elements in the Periodic Table : to name a few, Uranium, Hahnium, Actinium, Chromium, Kurchatovium etc.

“Belgium” does not have 3 syllables either. mad Sorry, no good. down

The others are fine. up Ganesh’s reason for Belgium is stretching the point a bit (remember I’m looking for only simple reasons) but technically it is acceptable. Try not to be too “off the mark”. smile

There are still some good reasons you’ve missed. Keep thinking. cool

Re: Odd many out

Yeah, I was swithering on Belgium. I eventually decided that it had three because if it had two then you'd have to pronounce it Bell-Jumm, which sounds odd. If it's too ambiguous then fair enough.

Can I say that France is odd because it has less than two syllables then?
I'm not entirely sure what constitutes an acceptable reason.

Re: Odd many out

But that is just how “Belgium” is pronounced. If you pronounce it differently, then maybe it’s your pronunciation that’s odd? tongue

Yes, you can certainly say that France is the odd one out because it is the only one of the four that is monosyllabic in its pronunciation. smile

Re: Odd many out

Right, here are the obvious reasons you missed.

Belgium is the odd one out

Italy is the odd one out

I really thought those were obvious. neutral Hopefully you’ll do better with the next one.

careless25,

I wonder why you didn't use the hide tag.
