Eerie facts

As you know, in the stories of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Sherlock Holmes is a detective, Dr Watson is his companion, and they both live on Baker Street in London.

But, did you know? Southampton FC once had players named Nick Holmes, Dave Watson and Graham Baker! What’s more, they all played for Southampton in the 1980–81 season and all scored goals for the club!

This is eerie!

Eliel Saarinen (1873–1950) was a Finnish architect. So was his son Eero Saarinen (1910–61).

But, did you know? They both shared the same birthday! They were both born on August 20, 37 years apart!

What are the chances of father and son having the same birthday? Eerie!

In the Fox TV series House, House and Wilson are named after Holmes and Watson.  Also, the band Jethro Tull has an awesome song "Baker Street Muse".

3. Lake Erie has a maximum depth of 210 ft.

The sign for the letter T in American Sign Language consists of a clenched fist with the thumb between the forefinger and the middle finger, as shown below.

But, did you know? The same sign is an obscene gesture in Singapore! This obscene gesture is usually made with the fist horizontal rather than pointing upwards as in the pciture.

How eerie!

John Ireland and Edward German were composers.

But, did you know? Ireland was born in England, while German was Welsh!

If this ain’t eerie, I dunno what is.

PS: Actually Sir Edward German was English of Welsh descent. I first learned about Edward German in a story by Enid Blyton – The Mystery of the Hidden House (part of the Five Find-Outers series).

In Swedish, the words vi and ni are pronouns, meaning “we” and “you” respectively. (More precisely, ni is the second person plural; the Swedish second person singular is du. In very polite or formal situations, Ni (with a capital “N”) is used for both singular and plural.)

But, did you know? In Esperanto, vi and ni are also pronouns, meaning completely the opposite – “you” and “we” respectively!

It is eerie to imagine what Mr Zamenhof must have had for breakfast when he invented Esperanto.

Ok, this isn't really that eerie but I'm going to say it anyway 'cause I think it's pretty weird.

Patrick Stewart plays Capt. Jean-Luc Picard in Star Trek: Generations & he plays Prof. Charles Xavier in the X-Men movies. I'm just saying this 'cause I love Star Trek & X-Men.

Stephen Hawking was born on the same day as Galileo Galilei, exactly 300 years later!

I also remember there was another cool birthday/deathday coincidence but not sure which was it was, maybe it was:
Einstein died 100 years after Gauss.
But I think it involved Ramanujan... alas I have not been able to find it.

Oh yeah and I forgot to say, I saw star trek and it wasn't what I expected but it was still awesome! I have to get the DVD!

I know! It was soooo awesome! I've been watching the old movies all week. My uncle downloaded the new movie onto my computer, which is kool, But It wont copy onto my iPod This makes me very, very sad.

I had a really eerie fact, but I can't remember what it was. But I do have this, it isn't that eerie but oh well. My best friends great grandfather (I think) invented Tattsloto.

I found out this other fact that is kind of eerie, well to me it's really eerie.
Also has to do with star trek, again.

Anton Chekhov, the guy from my signature, has the same last name as a character from star trek, (spelt differently, though) the character's first name is Pavel, which is the same name of Anton Chekhov's father! Also Anton Yelchin play's Pavel Chekov in the new star trek movie.
I find these facts really weird! Anton Chekhov's father was evil though, the character was just awesome.

The RMS Titanic sank on its maiden voyage in the Atlantic Ocean on 14 April 1912.

Everybody knows that – and it’s not an eerie fact.

What is eerie is that in 1898, a writer named Morgan Robertson wrote a novella entitled The Wreck of the Titan: Or, Futility – which eerily foretold the events of fourteen years later!

The story features the fictional ocean liner Titan, which sinks in the North Atlantic after striking an iceberg. Titan and its sinking have been noted to be very similar to the real-life passenger ship RMS Titanic, which sank fourteen years later. Following the sinking of the Titanic, the novel was reissued with some changes, particularly in the ship’s gross tonnage.
