An oldie!

This is an old puzlle, nevertheless interesting.
Rod, mathsy and Ricky attend Ganesh's birthday party.
Rod brings 5 cadnles with him, mathsy brings 3. Ricky doesn't bring anything.
The three of them have an understanding whereby all of the spend equally on outings.
While returning, Ricky gives $15 as his contribution.
The candles all are alike and cost the same.
The question is, how should the $15 be distributed among Rod and mathsy?

Re: An oldie!

TheDude  well done.
I think you should add a line to show the equality.

Re: An oldie!

TheDude,
I am sorry to say you are wrong.
If you need an answer, I shall post it in a day or two.
This is from a Russian book in Mathematics.
We all know how good the Russians are in Mathematics.

Re: An oldie!

Well, the question doesn't state that my contribution of $15 was me paying my third.  It could very well be that I was cheap and the candles totaled over $45.  Is this a correct interpretation Ganesh?

Re: An oldie!

I think it would be fairer if we get given $1 for every candle we brought.

I want $3. sad

Why did the vector cross the road?
It wanted to be normal.
