Re: Metamorphosis

Hi Bobby,

secs to me a little shaky.

secs is valid, according to the few sources I tried.

It's quite common here in Aus: eg, "Just wait a couple of secs".

I use this SOWPODS link for 4-letter words:
http://members.ozemail.com.au/~rjackman/4fours.html

And this one to check for Scrabble words:
http://www.collinslanguage.com/extras/scrabble.aspx

Btw, can we allow ZHero's puzzle before he's solved one first???!!!!!

Now that ZHero has posted a solution to a puzzle - his own(!), thereby breaking convention (and he gave himself an easy one at that(!!) - we can probably try solving the puzzle he gave in post #126.

It might go against the grain somewhat for you to do that, Bobby, given that you're such a stickler for sticking strictly to the rules, but I hope you'll take up my suggestion because I wouldn't want to have you going crazy over there! dizzy

How'd you get that! I didn't see that up there. How come you didn't do it if it was so easy? You did post right after it. Could it be it is not so easy? Could it be, it is a PT?

Hi Bobby,

How come you didn't do it if it was so easy?....Could it be, it is a PT?

I was faaaar too busy thinking of something silly to write to you than to be bothered with solving a puzzle that's only a PT - Piffling Trifle - but I'll have a go at doing it this evening after work.

Havta go now.

Nope, PT stands for phrontister trap. You know, say it's easy and then get ole bobbym to blow his remaining neurons on it?

They're all good, Bobby. I was just running with what you said:

those aren't words.

Sometimes the solutions comprise several words I've never seen before, and I was just surmising that maybe one day most of the words in a solution might all be strange ones. Btw, I added "seemingly" to that post.

Re: Metamorphosis

Hi ZHero,

I dont really think so but it can be a surname is all that I could find googling.

If surnames were allowed all words we dreamt up would be valid, as somebody in this big wide world would be sure to have that name! smile

I thought TIGE was also a name coz searching for its definition doesn't return anything?!

As well as being in the O.E.D., tige is in SOWPODS, which is a rearranged acronym for the combined Official Scrabble Words (British English) and Official Scrabble Players Dictionary (American English). I gave a link to SOWPODS 4-letter words in post #127.

In that post I also gave a link to the Scrabble word checker by Collins, whose dictionary is the current argument settler for that game. The Collins definition for tige is n trunk of an architectural column.

I also find this link handy (including its reverse dictionary feature!):
http://www.onelook.com/

There are many other sources too, of course, but these are my favourites so far.

Re: Metamorphosis

Hi Bobby,

Is "nees" in your last answer a word? I can't find it anywhere except as a proper noun (a person's name).

The O.E.D. says nees is an obsolete form of nese (nose) and niece.

Yes, I have been waiting for you to check. I cannot verify that either. I will remove it from my word list and redo the solution, thanks.

Nees removed from above solution, made the answer shorter.
