Hi Bobby,

The OED says barr is a variant of the obsolete word bary: v To utter the peculiar cry of an elephant.

I have the 2-volume book set of Merriam-Webster's Third New International Dictionary, and it's in there as an abbreviation for barrister.

Bit busy with something else right now (& bed soon!)...I'll have a go at your new one tomorrow.
