1. Get something big down under to form. (whether magnetic waste or glued plastic)
2. Make it block the hole. (through some force like magnetism/natural flow, like a material down there that can go through a pipe that has some feather/thread on it that moves against the hole or that the material vibrates or something)
Make your own proposal in this thread.
Like this:
1.Through a metal pipe easily comes down another pipe. So if it had folded out into a paraboloidic form with strong threads on it that moves with the oil it could've stopped it, would it've been strong enough.
2. Trough a metal pipe comes down highly magnetic material with high friction that sticks together perhaps together with glue. the material moves against the hole by released whire.

Depending on the currents in the Gulf, there may be a single point where the oil may converge. If that is the case, then once the oil settles, you could remove it much more easily.

What if the convergence point is Baton Rouge?

Well, obviously, if the point is somewhere near a city, we shouldn't try that approach.

Not necessarily, we should see what city it will be and then make a decision.

Odd how they don't mention he is a biomedical engineer, not a mechanical engineer. Also quite clear that the kid is just an actor in his Dad's play, don't you think?
Gotta love American news media!

I thought the Dad was an actor in the kids play. Also, medical guys are really good at stopping the leakage of precious fluids. This is just like a really big aorta.

So. basically we have a whole mess. I suggest one just drills another hole and drops something that clogs the hole. Or turns the oil into something... less fluident.

So you want to drill another hole on the other side of the world directly in line with the leak. And drop a plug in there. Bingo, oil leak gone.

Just how big is this oil leak, you know I don't have research that much, m8?

The exact size of the hole. I am not sure. Has BP released that bit of info. Only thing is that the reservoir of oil is huge and it is under tremendous pressure. Their burning the oil and I watched some vids where the environmentalists are getting on their case for burning all the marine life as well.

Probably not. But asking the people who caused the problem to fix it seems counter productive to me. Usually, in installations where results count, when you make a big mistake you are terminated or reassigned. You are not asked to fix the problem. Why? Because they figure either you are inept and will only make it worse or you are a saboteur. Which heading BP falls under I don't know but they should be replaced and someone capable brought in. Perhaps the US and Britains corp of army engineers.

Excellent work, Bobbym.
I think it's a global problem, perhaps all involved should aid in this?
and, whatever we do, let's NOT bomb it unless there's no alternative... If even then.
Anyway. So little choices.

I'm thinking like: if they could somehow raise a big pole down under so that they don't have to lighten all that preasure? or magnetically upphold it down under by some method.
What we need here is really several sucker boats that just drag up all that oil. Instead of just doing nothing. And not to close or they'll fall in.
Does anyone out there listen to that proposal?

Hi LQ;
They are using boats to drag up the oil but that is like trying to drain your pool with a straw. They say by the end of August they might be ready to stop the leak. They are going to try a variation of your idea. Pumping sand and cocrete into the reservoir to stop the leak from the inside. Trouble is End of August is too late.

bobbym, what is the scenario at end of august?
1. How about putting buoys all over the place holding it up?
2. how about boats together pushing the lid of the thing up?
3. (and final)... when is the moon in alignment?
We need anything that holds that thing up! magnetical buoys, anything that might work!
magnetical junk put in the oil or something so that plenty of magnets can hold up the entire lid!
I want figures on if it is plausible, a combined effort to stop the leak!
hey... if they get something magnetic down under I bet it can drag down a lid on top of the hole?
And can one stop the waves to this place? They like add alot to this I think.

Their idea is similar to a can of radiator stop leak, Ever had a leaky old type car radiator. You dump a can of stop leak into the radiator. The stop leak has lots of little metallic particles in it. Eventually it seals the leak from the inside. They want to use a mixture of sand and concrete as their stop leak.
Trouble is they are going to drill 2 more holes?? in the structure, hoping they can contain the new holes from leaking also, Then in some way thay haven't explained their are going to pump in all that sand and concrete against that pressure.
Sounds pretty weak.

How about the buoy proposal, is it possible?
Or i don't know... submarines draging up the bottom through metalwire?
So basically, they have 2 holes at eachothers endpoints, right?
They are thinking like a V, to stop the oil from getting up one hole, they have an opening next to it.
Bobbym, does that even work?
If they could spray the bottom with plastic/rubber that holds up the seabottom to stop the preasure on the leak or something (and also stop the waves) that would be good.

Hi LQ;
I don't think they are trying to make the endpoints meet. The buoy idea, I don't think that is feasible, anyway they won't be in a position to try anything for months. Probably this is just a gimmick to keep the press off of them.

Hey! I got an idea!
Listen... This is what we do. We lessen the electromagnetic preasure on the oil by releasing an conducting gas/fluid/material.
We can do the same thing in the water.
And we make some induction happen in the hole in some way aswell.
