Bye Howardroark...

I feel groggy if I sleep too much.

I'm hearing that for the first time!
Do something physical when you feel groggy, go out and turn a few somersaults!!

I will try that. As long as I do not break something.

Yes, my old bones break easy. I have cut down on the trapeze and tightrope work. One fall and they will be scooping me up with broom and shovel.

Re: What do you think?

Oh, you were talking of breaking something inside you, and I thought you were talking of breaking something around you!

Better stick with math itself, we need you here.

I break those things too. People need me for their math like Tokyo needs Godzilla.

Yes, you add special effect to math!

Bad special effects at that.

Hi bobbym,

is 9460912/124750080 the solution to post #374?

Re: What do you think?

Hi;

You mean to this?

A guy counts a deck of cards face down and notices that 5 are missing. He wonders what is the chance that the top card is an ace?

Re: What do you think?

Hi;

Offhand I would say that is not correct. But hold on to it, I could be wrong. I am being bothered at home here with problems so I will see you a little later. Sorry for the delay. Thanks for looking at the problems!

Ok, It's a doubtful answer of mine. So I may be wrong...

Re: What do you think?

Hi,

I was going through all pages of this thread and saw that some problems were not attempted.
I could not resist that probability problem.
Thanks again for all the beautiful problems.

Re: What do you think?

The fact is many problems there are not attempted. They are not difficult but the fact is most mathematicians and the mathematically inclined would rather memorize 10000 Legendre proofs than work on a problem.

Yes, some are easy problems in disguise.
I'll try them in my free time.

I did not mean you, I was just trying to explain why so very few of them are even attempted by others.

I understood what you said, I just typed in a hurry smile
Yes, I saw some problems were never attempted and  some were attempted after a few weeks. I'm surprised that there are so many registered users, yet a handful of them ever login!

Surprises me too. I never could understand why we have almost 100,000 registered users and I only see a handful of people over and over.

There is only a flat bet of 2 dollars per roll and the players expectation is 18 / 37 dollars per game. How many games must be played on average for him to earn his 1000 dollars. Since he doesn't like to lose he needs to also know what is his chance of losing in any single day.

I didn't see an answer posted for this question.

The problem lacks sufficient information to determine the casino's probability of loss on any single day. As a puzzle for the puzzle maker, I'll let you figure out why! :-) But, given the law of large numbers and the incredible expected winnings of the house, the probability will undoubtedly be VERY low.

Re: What do you think?

Hi All_Is_Number;

Thanks for looking at the problem but there is definitely if I remember an answer for every part of it. The problem answer is not posted here because It was being contested on another forum ( now defunct ). Since they were aware of me here I did not want them to just click a hide button.
