Really good at Mathematics?

Are you very good at Mathematics? This is the award you should aspire for, and get, before you are forty.

Re: Really good at Mathematics?

Is it better than a nobel prize? Can I sell it?

Re: Really good at Mathematics?

Nobel prize is not awarded for Mathematics. Field's Medal is the Nobel Prize equivalent in Mathematics. However, its awarded only once in four years.

Re: Really good at Mathematics?

There should be a Nobel for Mathematics ... all the rest of Science hangs off it.

A cut-down exctract from Wikipedia says:

"A common legend states that Nobel decided against a prize in mathematics because a woman ... rejected him or cheated on him with a famous mathematician, often claimed to be Gösta Mittag-Leffler. There is no historical evidence to support the story ... However, there are more credible reasons ...  there was already a well known Scandinavian prize for mathematicians"

"The Fields Medal is widely considered an equivalent substitute for the "missing" Mathematics Nobel Prize. Some even consider it more prestigious, as it is awarded less frequently."

Re: Really good at Mathematics?

I know you there isn't a nobel prize in mathematics but four years is a bit long it's like the world cup but it's only a one man team without brazil winning it four times.

Re: Really good at Mathematics?

Maybe we could fill the gap with a "Fun in Mathematics" prize. Winner gets a free supply of binary digits for a year.

What would we call it?

That almost sounds like a kind of chocolate.

Re: Really good at Mathematics?

The Field Medal awarders also gave award only once for a person over forty years ago. It was to Andrew Wiles who received the silver plague for solving the Fermat's Last Theorm which has kept many of the finest mathematicians for many centuries.
