Hi bobbym,

You made a mistake when you wrote

..
is indeterminate..

Re: Add 13 more and post it forever.

Hi Bobby,

I thought that 0° was indeterminate until now. Most of my calculators say so, as does W|A; but my HP 48SX and PC programs BCalc and Microsoft Calculator all gave 1.

A couple of internet articles gave 1 as an answer as well as indeterminate, undefined or nonexistent...depending on the application. But that's all beyond me.

Anyway, I'd initially thought that your calculator's batteries must have been on their way out - hence the answer 1 - as your 10078 should have been 10088.

Re: Add 13 more and post it forever.

Hi Howard and phrontister;

I got so excited about using the 0^0 which has different answers depending on whom you ask. For instance ask google.

Here is another answer:

Other than the times when we want it to be indeterminate, 0^0 = 1 seems to be the most useful choice for 0^0 . This convention allows us to extend definitions in different areas of mathematics that would otherwise require treating 0 as a special case. Notice that 0^0 is a discontinuity of the function f(x,y) = x^y, because no matter what number you assign to 0^0, you can't make x^y continuous at (0,0), since the limit along the line x=0 is 0, and the limit along the line y=0 is 1.

This means that depending on the context where 0^0 occurs, you might wish to substitute it with 1, indeterminate or undefined/nonexistent.

I used it to see if anybody would notice. Anyway,

Hi Bobby,

Yes, that the very same article I found.

If Rick and Jane were here they would have smashed my head like an overripe melon for using it that way. It was in their honor that I did.
