Hi,

Okay.

Hi bobbtm,

Yes, if I'll be able to...

Re: Is this cool with you?

Even if you do not, you will at least have the formula. Sometimes that is all we can hope for.

Re: Is this cool with you?

Hi gAr;

It might be possible with the condition of the problem being restricted to just the normal distribution that there may be something simpler. I know that if both numbers were drawn from the same distribution there is a much shorter form.

Re: Is this cool with you?

Hi;

Seems that only occurs when the distributions are the same and the parameters too.

I did not get it. Are we talking about the formula?

Hi bobbym,

Okay.
I think I would have never guessed of a formula like this!

Re: Is this cool with you?

Hi gAr;

Although it is sort of obvious that something has to be multiplied here and we are dealing with two distributions which are computed by integration. I still do not get it either.

I have come across some work by D. Zeilberger on what he calls The Holonomic Ansatz.  The Birkhoff - Trijinsky method for getting an asymptotic form from a linear recurrence is part of it. I have not looked at it well enough and I am still researching it so I do not have anything yet.

Hi bobbym,

Thanks for the information.

I too will look around... Interesting problem!

Re: Is this cool with you?

Hi bobbym,

Just finished with the exams, some time to relax for a few days!
Bought two books last week: "Applied combinatorics" by A.Tucker and "Probability, Random Variables and Stochastic Processes" by Papoulis.

How are you?

I am just the same. The Tucker book is excellent! You will enjoy reading that.
