Remembering the +C in integration

My teacher told us a nice way for students to remember to add the +C when integrating with calculus. He said call him Colin and don't forget Colin.

Has any of you teachers or students got any other ideas for how to remember?

Re: Remembering the +C in integration

I would just tell the students the joke about the integral of 1 over cabin.

It goes something like this:

The prof asks his students if they know what the integral of 1 over cabin is with respect to cabin.

The students answered that it was log cabin.

He said that they were,of course wrong, because the answer is log cabin+C=houseboat. smile

Re: Remembering the +C in integration

Hi;

I like definite integration much better. The 2 c's get eaten up.

In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them.
If it ain't broke, fix it until it is.
Always satisfy the Prime Directive of getting the right answer above all else.

Re: Remembering the +C in integration

It is all over the internet, so you were just bound to find another instance of it on the forum.

Re: Remembering the +C in integration

Except I didn't 'find' it there.  I posted it.  Small but significant difference!

I agree it's an old joke ... probably older than you!  But it's one that can only be appreciated by mathematicians and that rather appeals for some reason.

Re: Remembering the +C in integration

I thought someone else posted it.

I like that one and the one about the female bartender who knows how to integrate.
