What the heck has that got to do with a taylor series?

I will post a workable solution in the computer math section. In the meantime good work because you did solve the problem satisfactorily.

Thanks. The reason I have posted it is because it seemed to me no one posted an algebraic method.

New Problem
A machine is to visit the following 7 points on a grid every day. See the first picture.
The points are located at (0,1),(1,0),(2,0),(3,1),(4,2),(5,2),(6,3).
Plot a curve as close as you can that allows the machine to travel the least distance per day. To prevent wear and tear on the giant machine just gentle turns are possible.
A says) Ridiculously simple! Just fit straight lines between each point like this, see the second picture.
E says) Look at those sharp turns at the end of each point. Turns like that will tear the machine apart.
C says) I got it! I fit a 6th degree interpolating polynomial that is the shortest distance and look how smooth my path is. See the third picture.
D says) Well done C!
B says) That is a fit but it is not the shortest path through those points.
Is B right? Can you find the path he is thinking of?

New problem:
Certain of the A(k) are integers. The first one is A(1)=1. The second one is A(5)=11. The third one is A(7)=20.
A certain mathematician needs the 12345678 integer in that sequence.
A says) How does anyone know there are any integers after those 3?
B says) Well one way would be to actually find the number.
C says) I could not and I have a Cray super computer in my house. Yesterday, the liquid nitrogen leaked out and froze my pet lizard.
D says) I do not believe such a computation is possible.
E says) I have it.
B says) That is correct.
A says) Kaboobly doo! There are only 1000 integers in that sequence and I can prove it. My proof is simple and only 441 pages long. A darn good read if I must say so myself. Here is the first line, just to whet you appetite:
Let G be a metric...
Can you find the number or do you agree with A?
