Re: Newton Fractal

Hi;

The programs on that page use different algorithms than Newton's.

Re: Newton Fractal

Yes, I saw that this morning when I found that page but forgot about it when writing to you now.

Re: Newton Fractal

Root finding is a math problem and LB is just not built for it.

Re: Newton Fractal

Yes, I understand; but when I saw your post earlier on about Newton's going haywire if the initial guess was out of its range, I recalled a similar issue with another problem years ago that I wrote on my Sharp PC-1500A with its version of BASIC, where I used Newton's Method to solve it, and I was just letting you know my experience. My guess had to be so close to the answer that I had to enter what I thought was an unrealistically close initial approximation.

Re: Newton Fractal

Newton's works off of a tangent and sometimes can not get the root unless
you use as the initial guess. Sometimes it heads off into the complex plane and stays there.

Do you see those pictures a few posts up? They would not be possible
unless Newton's did not go crazy every once in a while.

Re: Newton Fractal

Yes, those pictures are stunning!

Many of the best (and worst) song lyrics were composed by crazy lyricists high on drugs. Is there some sort of parallel here with crazy Newton results?

Re: Newton Fractal

Hi;

That I do not know. The whole 60's movement was supposed to be mind altering
through the use of drugs.

Re: Newton Fractal

Yes...so I'm told.

Bed time again. Catcha later, Bobby.
