How costly is mathematica?

If I can't afford it, will I be able to do it with sage or some freeware?

Hi;

Mathematica is very costly for non - students, about 1500 dollars. It is cheap for students and faculty about 129 dollars.

Sage is a powerful alternative and so is Maxima which comes with geogebra. That is what anonimnystefy used.

I do not know about Sage very well. gAr uses it and is something of an expert with it. It needs Linux to run well.

Maxima can be downloaded as part of geogebra, 100+ megabyte download and as a standalone. It is 33 MB and can be downloaded from here.

I think it's something like wx_plot2d().

The name itself (actually, the wx part) suggests to me that it is meant for wxMaxima only.

They are currently making it a good 3D package also. Since William Schelter died their hasn't been that much improvements in Maxima.
