Hmmmm.

You have 4 boxes. You can toss balls one at a time to the boxes until any one of them has 3 balls in it, and then you stop.
The tosses are independent, and each bin is equally likely to be hit. It's impossible to not make it in a bin on any given toss.
What is the expected number of tosses so that 1 bin has 3 balls in it?

See you in a bit.

Yes, I know the problem. But I am not sure I understand what you are trying to say...

I posed that to Matt for that very reason!

I gave him that problem because I needed an answer to the very problem you just solved.

I just counted them. But now I would try to use your idea from the problem #10.

I already got it working for more bins.

It means I have been waiting for you to solve this problem. His solution to #10 gave no insight into how to do it other than what I already knew.

That is great. If only we had a better form for that...

You mean a form that would make math types happy?

It already is in a nice form for a CAS. Allows us to compute some big numbers.

I have not looked at it for very large ones but it is doing much larger ones than was possible before.

Well, it is certainly better than his method!
