Word Game #57

Word Game #57

In this game, there is a hidden rule which defines valid and invalid words.
It's an extremely simple rule, but with a simple twist, so no examples are given.

Questions may be asked, but may or may not be answered, probably won't.

Post a list of ten words before Noon GMT Friday 21 May. After that, no more than one list per player per day.

There is no scoring of points. Every list will be checked by me and I will state, by referring to the post #, how many valid words it contains, but not which. E.g. "#2: 3; #3: 1; #4: 0." Is that clear enough?

The winner will be the first player to post a list of 10 valid words.

I forecast that the number of valid words posted will be quite high.
A tip: in view of the "twist", make no assumptions!

I reckon the best policy here is to take a wild stab at the rule and make a list accordingly.

Come to think of it, you don't really need any opponents in this game, it's just as much fun without...  something like 20 Questions.

Ah, nice work phrontister.

I didn't participate in this one too much, but I do enjoy these, gurth. Keep 'em coming if you can! smile

Ok, mathsyperson, next game coming right up! But this game is over. Your list in post #12 would have scored 0 points, because your name doesn't start with p.

You'll have to rub out mathsy's point from #3, gurth. wink

I agree with mathsyperson...keep 'em comin'. smile

Re: Word Game #57

Hi stefy,

I don't know if gurth is still monitoring these as his last post on MIF was over a year ago...so I'll mark yours and say "You got it!" up

EDIT: Oops...WRONG! sad (see post #21)

(apologies if I jumped in prematurely, gurth)

Re: Word Game #57

Seems to me my post #13 effectively ended this game, so that further tries are out. I don't see an 'a' in all stefy's words... so they fail.

At the moment I don't seem inspired to continue these particular games, I am rather discovering and playing other games, such as the 'mastermind' phrontister referred to. Now I'm tired of mastermind because there is too much luck in it. Castello is my current favourite.
I've also been posting a lot of 'cryptic crossword' clues on Facebook's Cryptic Crossword Society, but I'm giving that a break now as interest in my particular sort of clue (highly unorthodox) has waned.

Hi gurth,

Ah yes...of course! Forgot about that! sad

Hi stefy,

Read this before you read posts 13 and 20!

Sorry, stefy, but your score is 6. Try not to look at the two posts I mentioned if you can, because they give the game away. I'll continue to mark your lists for you if you like.

Re: Word Game #57

Do you reeeeally want to know? If I tell you it will spoil the game because it's too big a hint, and I think you'd rather solve this puzzle by yourself.

gurth scored my list correctly...and he never gave such hints in any of his games. I don't think I should either.

You'll like the clever twist when you find it! smile

Bed time! wave

Re: Word Game #57

The only thing I can think of is what I already tried. I do not see any other pattern in any of your correct words.

You can assume that, though simple, it's sneaky (as mathsy said), and is such that it won't readily come to mind. >evil grin<

Try posting some lists (10 long) of words for me to mark, and the light may come on...eventually! smile
