Re: Chocolate!

Hi stefy,

The main reasons I opted for the current fix instead of the cube root version:

1. The mathematical components of this puzzle are easily handled (as would be the cube root), and I'm sure that the main off-putting feature for any would-be solvers - and the reason this puzzle and 'bobbym's YOB' remained unsolved for so long (until you came along smile ) - is the confusing nature of the wording, which this fix increases the level of and aligns with better than the cube root.

2. If the cube root were retained, a back-door solution (not conclusive) beckons from just the clauses after the "divided by" clause.

Re: Chocolate!

Okay sad

But, it is interesting that this puzzle is easy to solve by hand, unlike YOB/YOP.

Re: Chocolate!

Yes, that was intentional. The forum on which I posted it wasn't all that mathematically inclined - mainly logic puzzles and other easyish stuff - and CAS rarely featured. This is a very junior version of the YOB/YOP, and I'd hoped it would've been easy enough to be solved on that forum...a bit tricky to make sense of, but still very doable. But no one ever commented on it there.

Re: Chocolate!

That is too bad. Maybe they saw the wording and immediately ren away.

Re: Chocolate!

They might have run even faster if they saw the fix. smile

Re: Chocolate!

And more if they saw the YOB/YOP puzzle and/or its check.

Re: Chocolate!

Maybe all the forum members ran away after reading my Chocolate! puzzle (even without the fix), and that's why the forum closed down.

Re: Chocolate!

Quite possible. Then fell to their... well, heads when they saw it.

The problem with those puzzles is I have no idea where to even start. I have never solved one, and I don't know where to find simpler ones.

Have you seen this thread, stefy?

You might like that word game.

Re: Chocolate!

I know the game, but I haven't seen the thread. I will look at it now. Thanks up

EDIT: When I type on my phone some words turn out Engrish.

Re: Chocolate!

Yes, I've noticed that in some of your posts. I just put it down to you maybe having a fat typing finger.

Re: Chocolate!

It's mostly because the keyboard is small, so the letters are very near.

My mobile's a brick, with adequate room between keys. I'm holding off getting getting one of those new fandangled phones until they invent input by thought. My thought, that is!
