Religious discussion

Get this straight. Discuss your religion. Find out the best.
For me atheism is better than any religion. Look at Scandinavia. Not many of them are religious, and result: Good statistics everywhere.
Not communism. Communism is forced atheism. Scandinavia is the example of voluntary atheism.

Re: Religious discussion

Hi;

But atheism is not a religion. Have you been to Scandinavia?

Re: Religious discussion

Atheism is better than being in any religion. He meant that

'And fun? If maths is fun, then getting a tooth extraction is fun. A viral infection is fun. Rabies shots are fun.'
'God exists because Mathematics is consistent, and the devil exists because we cannot prove it'
I'm not crazy, my mother had me tested.

Re: Religious discussion

It is certainly easier not having to believe or study anything because you are sure there is nothing there.

What if you are not sure and do not live in Scandinavia?

What has Scandinavia got to do with it?

Did you watch the video he told?

Re: Religious discussion

I don't know. I've not watched.

What does he mean by "Secular Mathematician"?

Re: Religious discussion

I do not think the term applies. A "secular scientist" is one who supposedly studies science with no preconceieved notions. But is that possible?

Re: Religious discussion

the video have nothing to do with atheism.
The data link is in my computer. But lookingat the good welfare, stable economy, high living standards... would tell you that immediately.
And I have been to Denmark twice, Norway and Sweden one each. Friendly people, great sense of nationalism and independence and clean place are my main views.

Re: Religious discussion

Hi;

That sounds like the brochure for Vegas.

Here is a little article that suggests that something else may be going on.

[link removed, too horrible!]

There are reportedly cases of arson against churches. I have that link too but will not post it here.

I do not mean to say anything unkind about the place. I have a friend who is Norwegian and he is a very good person. Just for the record he is not an atheist.

Here is a link that shows although Norway slightly tops the list there are many countries close to it in standard of living. A couple are predominantly Catholic. What I am saying is that there is probably no correlation between atheism and prosperity.

I agree. Religion is a private thing.

Re: Religious discussion

Hi;

I agree.

atheism:definition

a : a disbelief in the existence of deity
b : the doctrine that there is no deity

While it is true that it would be very difficult to belong to a religion and be an atheist, one could not be affiliated with any religion and still not be an atheist.

Re: Religious discussion

Well I have data that says Norway is the most religious out of the 3 countries. And religiousity is a complex subject in Scandinavia. The majority of church members in Scandinavia don't believe in Jesus, just for the record.

Re: Religious discussion

Norway is the most religious out of the 3 countries

Then how can they be atheists?

Wikipedia gives a breakdown of about 83 % of the country being Christian.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Religion_in_Norway

Norway has about 5 million people and Sweden about 10 million. It is easy to see with populations that small that there are not many problems. This is probably the reason for the high standard of living. NYC when I lived there had more people than either Sweden or Norway in an area 1000 times smaller!

Re: Religious discussion

That means the religious percentage in Norway is higher than both others. And again, religiousity in Scandinavia is complex. Church members are >80% for 2 reasons: good charity activities and nationalism sense as part of a wider movement for a national, historical identity. They are willing to identify themselves as church members, but if you look at the Gallup poll on Importance of Religion, less than 20% says religion is important. Many people near the places I stayed there are church members, but never ever go to church. And Scandinavia is also liberal minded. Would a country with more than 80% Christians legalisms math in 1968? Homosexual partnership in 1989? Ahead of all others? I don't think so.

Re: Religious discussion

So the legalization of math and same gender marriage is the reason for their position? Is it not the fact that both countries put together have a population smaller than your country by 5 or 6 times? That the state I grew up in has more people than both countries combined?

The small population means they do not have to police or feed or provide jobs. If they had as many people as my country does then ...

I bet there are more atheists living here then in both countries combined.

Re: Religious discussion

Wait!

We are messing up the argument between atheist, gay marriage and Human Development Index?

Basically, what is the point we are trying to make?

Media has no idea of what science (or anything) is. They just want an interesting story to sell their newspaper.

I disagree.

Looks like the first bit of intelligent journalism in ohh, about 100 years. Much better than their continued coverage of how much ole Bill G. is worth or the latest fashion trend painted on some rock star bimbo.
