Planets' names

Why are the names of the planets (except earth) named after Gods?

Mercury was the messenger of the gods in Roman mythology. He was the fastest and so is the planet.

Venus was the most beautiful as is the planet.

Mars is the god of war because Mars is red.

Jupiter was king of the gods, and the planet is the largest.

etc.

But, Neptune is the coldest, right?

Not exactly, Neptune is the Roman name for Poseidon, god of the sea.
