I did not see word "urn" in that page, which post in that?

Re: Is this cool with you?

Around post 2161. It is worded as a dice problem but actually it is related to a bin or urn problem that I had been trying to solve prior to that.

Re: Is this cool with you?

I remember now, had the formula in form of a sum.
You got a closed form for that?

Re: Is this cool with you?

I do not think so. He has a gf and that is correct but his series is flawed. The good thing about it is it is more general than anonimnystefy's solution.

What's given in the book you were reading?

Looks nice, but what's kmax there?

Re: Is this cool with you?

The labels have been changed to something simpler to read. That sum is supposed take for any distinguishable urns, distribute n balls with a max of k in any one of them.

I'll try out the formula.

Save yourself the work. It does not work.

The gf does but I am unable to extract a general form from them.

Re: Is this cool with you?

Maybe it does not have a simplified closed form.

Re: Is this cool with you?

That is probably true but if they would have published the correct sum then at least we would not need the sequence anymore!

That is what I was hoping to do but no luck. I searched for errata for the book but could not find any.

Sometimes working it out ourselves gives results faster than searching, we'll never know!

I was not looking for that solution but as I was looking through this book, which is full of wonderful answers, I saw it. What a downer!

Oh, that's big size for a book.
I'll take a look later, taking some rest, see you..

Hi;

There is a djvu version that is only about 3.5MB. You can try that.

Re: Is this cool with you?

That's okay, I was talking about the size compared to the number of pages, takes more than average. But the book looks good, lots of new formulas!

Hi;

I think I cleaned that formula up and got it to work.

Re: Is this cool with you?

Hi bobbym

What is the formula then?

Also, the answer to the last problem:

“Taking a new step, uttering a new word, is what people fear most.” ― Fyodor Dostoyevsky, Crime and Punishment
The knowledge of some things as a function of age is a delta function.
