I respect anybody that is self taught. It is hard enough to learn with a professor imagine with just a book and your own wits.
For some people this produces a measure of humility, for others it only convinces them that they are geniuses and everyone else is a fool. When someone disagrees with them they explode.
In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them.
If it ain't broke, fix it until it is.
Always satisfy the Prime Directive of getting the right answer above all else.
